Link, Galloway Attend Flood Risk Summit

From December 12-14, Professors Ed Link and Gerry Galloway were among 50 invited national experts brought together at the Aspen Wye River Conference Center on the Eastern Shore to develop policy improvements for the nation’s flood risk reduction program. The Summit was sponsored by the Association of State Floodplain Managers and the National Association for Storm and Floodwater Management Agencies with the support of the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Link represented the Interagency Performance Evaluation Task Force that recently completed the examination of the causes of the levee failures in New Orleans, and Galloway represented both the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Water Resources Association. During the three day session, the group developed and presented recommendations to senior government officials on how the federal, state and local governments might better deal with the significant flood challenges facing the nation.
